Reigning Sabalenka Secures Back-to-Back WTA Top Player Honors.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second straight year.
The twenty-seven-year-old won four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – which included retaining the US Open this past September versus Amanda Anisimova to claim her fourth Grand Slam singles championship.
A Season of High Performance
Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka competed in a tour-best nine championship matches, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also triumphed at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the entire year as the world number one, ending 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.
In July, she became the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams in 2015.
Historic Achievements
Sabalenka ended the season with a 63-12 match record, and earned a record eleven million pounds in prize money.
She garnered almost 80% of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
Later this month, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "elevate women's tennis to a greater prominence".
Other WTA Award Recipients
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking extended hiatus after the arrival of her first child and returning to the sport earlier this season.
- Rookie of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after starting the season ranked outside the world's top 300 and climbing to the eighteenth spot.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after securing their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after advancing to five championship matches.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz took home three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as fans' favourite for a third time.
